Who would have ever thought that a couple of left behind parts from an automotive production plant could actually be good enough to put together an actual running car? Well, it apparently can happen. Just go and ask Jaguar fanatics Mike Wilkinson and Ray Parrott. Just by gathering a bunch of left behind parts, the duo were actually able to build a working 1974 Jaguar E-Type V12.
How did this come about you ask? Well, it all started when Mike Wilkinson managed to collect truckload of leftover parts from a Jaguar production plant. Coincidentally, that plant just happened to end the production of the Jaguar E-Type during that time. So once he had the parts, Mike held on to them for almost 31 years (too long of a time if you ask me) until he finally decided to let them go by selling them to Ray Parrott. When Parrott looked at the parts, he had a jaw-dropping realization: 95% of them were good enough to actually build a car. And this isn’t just any ordinary car, mind you. The parts were capable of building a 1974 Jaguar E-Type V12.
Giddy with excitement (ok, we’re just assuming that he was giddy), Parrot worked on assembling the car at his house. Of course, being that the parts were actually more than three decades old, you’d think that they’d all be in a beat-up condition. But, surprisingly, all of them were kept in pristine condition, from the exhaust, to the dashboard, and even the original Dunlop tires. How good of a condition were these parts were? Well, Parrot didn’t have to remove any grime, rust, or strip any paint and primer on them. That good, folks.
Overall, it took Parrot eight months to get the construction of the ’74 Jaguar E-Type done. It even ran like a brand new machine after construction. So after it was tested by the Ministry of Transportation, Parrot is now just waiting for the vehicle’s legal registration, VIN and chassis numbers and he’ll be able to legally declare ownership of a 1974 Jaguar E-Type V12. All this, thanks to a bunch of old, spare parts.
