Mustang Maker Donald Frey Passed Away

Mustang Maker Donald Frey Passed Away

Donald N. Frey, the man behind the development of the Mustang passed away last March 5 in Evanston, Illinois. He was 86 years old. According to his son, Christopher Frey, his father passed away due to a stroke. That’s another living legend in the automotive industry that has moved on. The Mustang would never have become a reality without this man and his team, which also included Lee Iacocca. Sadly, we will never get to see any more creative toys from this genius. Thanks again for the memories, Mr. Frey.

’61 Porsche Spyder Goes For $1.7 Million

’61 Porsche Spyder Goes For $1.7 Million

The previous owner of this 1961 Porsche RS61 must be grinning from ear-to-ear. That’s because this vintage vehicle was able to go on sale for a whopping $1.705 million. Sporting a 1.6-liter 547/3 boxer motor that can hit 160 horsepower, this vehicle was auctioned off by The Gooding & Company. We’re guessing that aside from the condition of the car (which looks excellent by the way), its reputation of being a popular racing vehicle may have had a hand in it being sold that high. Bottom line, this Spyder is definitely a catch.

A Rocket-Shaped Monstrosity

A Rocket-Shaped Monstrosity

Not all concept cars look cool. There are just some that make you ask yourself: “what was this person thinking?” The car created by Ralph Lynde is a perfect example.

At a glance, you’d think that the car is a missile on wheels. Of course, then you’d come to realize after a few seconds that missiles don’t need wheels. Anyway, this vehicle takes inspiration from the creator’s penchant for drag racing. Built using an F-100 Super Sabre drop tank, this race car comes with a plexiglass built nose and a Kawasaki ZX-9R engine. Oh and if you’re wondering whether you’ll be able to squeeze yourself in it, here are its measurements: 20” wide and 25” tall. Not exactly the “model figure” you’d like.

Now that you have an idea as to what this car has to offer, you can now drop your jaw because this baby is actually for sale. And it doesn’t come cheap. Getting your hands on this will cost you a whopping $30,000. So if you’d like to see yourself – probably for the last time – driving in some weird contraption, here’s your chance. Although why you’d want to is really beyond us.

New York Mechanic Uses Scrap Parts To Build Model Rockets

New York Mechanic Uses Scrap Parts To Build Model Rockets

Normally, people with scrap parts of classic cars end up selling them to junkyards. Some just leave them on the street. However, Steve Heller decided to do something more creative with these scrap parts.

A native of Woodstock New York, Steve Heller decided to use the parts that he has to build rocket ship sculptures. Yep, you’re reading that right. Rocket ship sculptures. Creative isn’t he?

So what prompted this mechanic to go this route? Well, according to Steve, he was inspired by seeing a baboon head made from toy cars when he visited the Museum of Modern Art as a kid. This triggered him to come up with this concept and he hasn’t stopped since.

So if you want to get a good look at what Steve has created, check out the gallery below to enjoy his works of art.

Uncle Sam’s Ride For Only $18,950

Uncle Sam’s Ride For Only $18,950

Can you imagine driving around in a military-type vehicle? If you can, then you might want to look into getting this 1972 Pinzgauer.

Currently being sold at a starting price of $18,950, this truck comes with a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine capable of producing 105 horsepower. It’s not the fast but given its built, it shouldn’t be, right? Its interior is also in good condition so there’s not much to repair. Unless you really want to add some “bling” to it, that is.

So why consider getting this ride? Well, aside from the fact that not everyone drives around in this thing (making you automatically stand out), it could help you get away from dire traffic situations. After all, nobody wants to mess with the military, right? And with this Pinzgauer, you’ll probably be able to make people think that you’re part of Uncle Sam’s troopers.

The Shelby Cobra CSX2001, A Sight To Behold

Kids, you’re looking at the very first Shelby Cobra built. And what a sight it is to behold. Dubbed the CSX2001, this particular vehicle shifted from one owner to the next until it landed in the hands of real estate developer, Bruce Meyer in 2006. While under different owners, this vehicle underwent numerous changes. This included its engine suspension, and even its paintjob. Saluting The Trooper

Saluting The Trooper

Isuzu has given us a number of solid vehicles through the years. One particular ride we’d like to remember is one of the company’s first SUVs. This is none other than the first generation Isuzu Trooper.

Although it’s not as appealing as today’s SUVs, it managed to get the job back then. Released as a 2-door and 4-door vehicle, the Isuzu Trooper was equipped with a rear axle and front independent suspension. During its production run, this SUV was equipped with three types of engines: a 2.6-liter I4, a 2.3-liter I4, and a 2.8-liter TD I4 engine. Among all three, the 2.6-liter stood out since it was Isuzu’s first fuel-injected engine.

Aside from these engines, the first generation of the Isuzu Trooper was given a 4-speed manual transmission. It also enjoyed a number upgrades such as s shift from round sealed beam lights to rectangular headlights. Another was the optional clutch-type limited slip rear differential.

After a decade of decadence, the first generation Isuzu trooper was laid to rest in 1991. But even though it’s not with us now, it will always be remembered as one of the pioneers of today’s modern SUVs.
