Thinking of doing some driving on the beach? Well, before you take out your sports car or luxury sedan, you might want to take a look at what drivers actually use in this type of environment. That would be the dune buggy, folks. And one of the popular dune buggies that came around in the 60’s and 70’s was the Meyers Manx dune buggy.
With a total of 6,000 units produced, the Meyers Manx dune buggy was known for its combination of toughness and stellar performance. The vehicle sported a strong fiberglass shell combined with a Volkswagen frame and an engine that’s placed at the rear. It also comes with a small wheelbase that makes it more lightweight, enabling it to achieve better maneuverability. This also gives the dune buggy the ability to increase speed at a faster rate.
During its production run, the Meyers Manx dune buggy was given an array of different engines ranging from a 1.1 L H4, a1.2 L H4, a 1.3 L H4, a 1.5 L H4, and a 1.6 L H4. Each one was paired up with either a 4-speed manual transaxle or a 3-speed clutchless manual transmission.
So if you frequent the beaches and want to go around the area without having to walk, then the Meyers Manx dune buggy is the ride for you. Not only will it be easier for you to drive in this environment, it might help your chances of going home with a date or two.
