Electric cars are considered hip nowadays. But since it only affects modern vehicles, those who own vintage cars are pretty much left out. Of course, that didn’t stop Tom Leitschuh, a resident of Wisconsin from converting his classic ’81 El Camino into an electric car.
Equipped with a set of 46-lithium ferrite phosphate batteries and a 100 hp electric motor, this ’81 Camino is able to achieve 85 mph. It may not be as fast as it used to be, but for an electric car (and a converted one at that), that’s a good deal. Aside from overhauling its entire engine, Tom’s El Camino also sports a sleek, dark blue exterior to help match its updated engine.
Given all the upgrades, you’d expect that Tom spent a fortune on building this mean machine. Well, he forked up $30,000. Yup, it is pricey, but the end result says it all.
